Laurie Braden, LSU UREC Executive Director

Summer is upon us, but that doesn’t mean UREC is slowing down and neither should you.

LSU broke many records this year including the most degrees awarded and record degrees awarded to female students, Hispanic students, and Asian students. Likewise, UREC continues to reach record numbers, and we strive to create an inclusive and inviting environment for all.

During the last academic year we recorded nearly 750,000 visits to UREC, and were able to show that the average GPA of UREC users is  3.28.  We offered 1,859 Fitness GroupX classes, and our Adventure Education program traveled over 1,900 to lead 7 trips all over the southeast.  The  pools were visited 22,000 times with numerous First Aid CPR/AED classes taught throughout the year.  We hosted 2 different Unified Sport Basketball Leagues in partnership with the Louisiana Special Olympics and saw our 21 Sport Clubs members contribute more than 1,000 community service hours.

I am proud of the work the LSU UREC team does to support students’ success in the classroom and the hundreds of programs we offer each year.  This summer, enjoy your break and be prepared to return to campus where we are continuing to look for ways to support the mental and physical wellbeing of all students.  The 2018-2019 academic year was great for LSU, and we all look forward to raising the bar and making 2019-2020 even more successful.

On behalf of the UREC Team,

Laurie Braden
