Yoga Instructional

Are you brand new to Yoga or looking to refine your existing practice? If so, this workshop is for you. In a comfortable environment with other new beginners, this session will guide you through every pose with emphasis on aligning your body. You will be introduced to breathing techniques, postures, sun salutations and calming relaxation. This is a great way to learn the basics of yoga and how to prevent injury. Begin your yoga journey to a stronger, more flexible body and a calmer, more peaceful mind.

Strength Training 101

Strength training is an important component of a balanced fitness program. Learn some basic strength training principles such as how to make sure you are using sufficient weight, determine your sets and reps and to insure you are progressing in your workouts.

Are you looking to lose or maintain a healthy weight? This workshop is aimed at simplifying weight loss. A registered dietitian will guide participants in setting up a customized plan, discuss strategies to meet your goals, and overcoming obstacles to success.

Do you lack time or expertise on cooking quick, healthy meals? This workshop will guide you through time saving techniques, steps to stocking a healthy kitchen, and throwing a meal together in 10 minutes or less with no oven required!

NIRSA Fitness Day Challenge: Military Obstacle Course

  • Friday, February 22 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. (starts every 20 minutes)
  • In front of Student Recreation Center

NIRSA encourages all citizens and organizations to join in honoring February 22 each year as National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day through appropriate celebrations and special events.

Obstacle courses are a great way to challenge all-around fitness, strength, and coordination. This fun and challenging military style obstacle course will incorporate medicine ball overhead carry, push-ups, tire running, squats, tunnel crawling, jump rope, hurdle burpies, bear crawls, sand bag drags, and more. Do you have the stamina to complete the challenge? The fastest male and female to go through the obstacle wins!

Power X-Fit Challenge

  • Friday, March 22 • 3:00 p.m.
  • UREC Fields

Take your fitness to the next level with this heart pumping challenge. Round 1 will consists of 20 squats, 15 push-ups, and 10 burpies repeated for 20 minutes. The top 3 females and top 3 males will advance to Round 2. Round 2 will consist of 10 shoulder presses, 10 box jumps; 10 squat throws repeated for 10 minutes. The female and male who complete the most rounds in that time frame will win!

Track & Field Challenge

  • Friday, April 19 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
  • In front of Student Recreation Center

Let the games begin! Grab a partner and come out for this fun and exciting track and field style event. Participants will compete in four challenging events and a final decathlon that will test stamina, power, speed, and agility. The team that accumulates the most points after all of the events will be the winners! Do you have what it takes to go for the gold?

Stress Management/Relaxation Workshop

Join us to explore the relationship between stress, a sense of humor and coping strategies; including specific relaxation techniques and recognizing our individual “stress buttons.”

RAD Self-Defense Course for Women

  • Friday, February 15 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 16 from 9:oo a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 17 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

RAD is a 12-hour self-defense program for women. All sessions are in the CCT Annex Building, located across from Tureaud Hall. The cost is $25 for LSU, Southern, BRCC students, faculty, and staff. The cost is $45 for the general public. The RAD lifetime return and practice policy allows you to come back and practice your skills to perfection (no cost). The LSU Office of Health Promotion and LSU Police Departments sponsor RAD.
