Each year, UREC recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and recognizes Intramural Officials, Fitness Assistants, Lifeguards, Operations Assistants, and more! Experienced or not, you get your training and experience HERE and sometimes depending on the position, even certification.

How To Apply

We may not always be actively hiring, but we are always accepting applications for future vacancies.

Step 1: Review student employee positions

  • Include all certifications and expiration dates as necessary.
    • Note: Be prepared to provide hard copy documentation if contacted for employment.
  • A resume and cover letter are preferred, but not required.In order to apply, you must click on the student employee positions available below. This will lead you to the online application for that specific position. Each position with UREC has a unique set of job duties that make the position an asset to the #URECfam.

Step 2: Complete and submit UREC student employee electronic application through TigerLink

  • You can access to TigerLink using your MyLSU username and password. 

Interview Process

Step 1: Wait to be contacted for interview via email

  • Not all applicants will receive an interview. Applications are screened based on department need, best fit, and on quality of the materials. You will be contacted via email after the application period closes to schedule an interview.
  • Applicants who receive an interview will be notified by email. Interview spots are limited, so be sure to reply in a timely manner (within 24 hours).

Step 2: Prepare for your interview

  • Candidates should report to the designated location on time, but no more than 10 minutes early.
  • Interviews are conducted by area supervisors.
  • If you miss your interview time, make up interviews may only be held if time permits on another day and if openings are still available.
  • In some areas, a practical skills test and/or audition may be required as part of consideration and will be outlined in your original interview offer email.

Step 3: Accept/reject position if selected for hire

UREC Human Resources will contact individuals selected for hiring via email. To accept the employment offer, sign up for an orientation session by clicking on the link provided.  If you wish to decline, simply reply to the offer email.  Please reply with an acceptance/denial in a timely manner (within 24 hours).

You’ve joined the #URECfam, now what?

Step 1: Prepare for Orientation

  • Once an applicant has accepted the job by signing up for orientation, he/she will need to locate and present necessary  I-9 identification documents at orientation.

  • Attend New Hire Orientation
    • Orientation is a mandatory and must be attended within 2 weeks of the job offer email.
      • Topics include: On-boarding Steps, UREC 101, Expectations, Emergency Action Plan (EAP) Highlights, and Profesional Development

Step 2: Complete electronic hiring documents

Within 24-48 hours after orientation, new employees will receive a link (via email) to complete electronic hiring documents.

Step 3: Complete all additional trainings


All training must be completed within 2 weeks of orientation.

  • Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
  • Preventing Sexual Misconduct
  • LA Code of Ethics
  • American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED
  • Louisiana Mandated Reported

Step 4: Communicate with new supervisor

In order to begin working, employees should communicate with their new supervisor in order to complete area trainings and to start working!

Adventure Education Operations

Adventure Education Assistant

  • Monitor for and mitigate risk in the climbing area through enforcement rules and policies.
  • Instruct and assist patrons with belaying and other climbing related skills.
  • Help patrons with gear rental and tracking inventory in the Adventure Education Center.
  • Effectively utilize and monitor point of sale program for rentals and cash handling.
  • Assist with the facilitation of Challenge Course programs.

Aquatic Operations

Swim Instructor

  • Provide children and adults with safe and effective instructional swim lessons to enable development of aquatics skills.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required.
  • Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Prior swim instruction experience is preferred, but not required.

  • Monitor and provide a safe swim environment at UREC’s indoor pool, outdoor lap pool, and leisure river.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required.

If you are currently lifeguard certified by the American Red Cross:

If you are currently lifeguard certified by another training provider, have an expired lifeguard certification, or need to obtain a lifeguard certification:

Facility Operations

Facility Operations Assistant

  • Responsible for welcoming members to the facility and serve as a customer service representative.
  • Handle point of sale transactions for membership and pro shop sales.
  • Rent equipment out to members.
  • Answer phone calls to UREC and have a general knowledge of UREC.

Fitness Operations Assistant

  • Supervise all cardio/weight room activity.
  • Enforce weight room policies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workout environment.
  • Must be able to lift 45 lbs.
  • Serve as a customer service representative when members need help or have questions.

  • Lead and motivate individuals & groups in UREC fitness classes.
  • Provide safe and effective instruction.
  • Prior exercise class instruction is preferred, but not required.
  • Nationally recognized Group Fitness Certification is required (ACE, AFAA, NASM, NETA).

Sports Official

  • Manage game and maintain order to mitigate risk of the participants.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the rules and apply as trained in sport-specific officials’ training.
  • Assist with set-up and breakdown of the intramural sport activity site.
  • Enforce game rules and keep score/time of each game/match.
  • Work with fellow Sport Programs staff to assign a Sportsmanship Rating following each game officiated.
